Seabed will provide you the suitable solutions in bottom sampling

Seabed has developed reliable bottom sampling equipment which is used to determine the characteristics of the first few meters of the sea-floor. These bottom samplers can for instance be used for environmental research, civil engineering and sand search campaigns for the dredging industry.

Seabed’s geophysical tools and this sampling equipment form a perfect combination. Sub-bottom profiler data, for instance, is usually interpreted and /or calibrated by means of a core sample.

SVC500E Vibrocorer

This is an electrically powered vibrocorer with a standard core barrel length of 5 meters. Two large electrical motors feed two concentric weights, which form the source of the vibration. The motors are adjustable and can run at various frequencies. Their nominal frequency is approximately 50 Hz.
The SVC500E Vibrocorer is designed to allow various diameters of the core barrel. The standard sizes are diameters of 76 and 100 millimeters.
The sealed housing for the electronics is designed to operate at water depths of 150 meters.
Depending on the depth of operation, a suitable winch is delivered which contains the umbilical between the vibrocorer and the control unit. This ruggedized control unit is designed to operate in all weather conditions and in salt water environments.

SBS Bottom sampler

The difference between the SBS Vibrocorer and the SVC series is that the last-mentioned sampler is an air-pressure driven vibrocorer, specially designed for nearshore and inland waters. The bottom sampler has to be connected to a standard air compressor with a capacity of at least 2500 lit/min delivered at 8-12 bar, depending on the water depth of operation. This pressurized air drives a pneumatic hammer which drives the core barrel containing the PVC core liner into the seafloor.

This unit is relatively light and easy to mobilize. It can be deployed from a relatively small vessel if it is equipped with a crane.

Piston Corer

The piston corer is designed to take samples from soft, cohesive soils. Penetration of the sea-floor is achieved by gravity only. With a purpose-built trigger mechanism, the actual distance of free fall towards the seafloor can be adjusted. The free fall distance is determined by measuring the length of the cable from the clamp to the counterweight. When the counterweight reaches the bottom, it triggers a mechanism which releases the corer. Please contact us for more information.

Van Veen Grab

When samples are needed from the surface of the sea-floor, a Van Veen grab is an excellent option. This is a stainless steel, gravity-activated soil grab. The stainless steel Van Veen grabs are used to take disturbed samples from the bottom of a sea, lake, river, etc. Seabed offers the Van Veen Grab in various sizes. Box Corer

The standard box corer is designed to take undisturbed samples from the top layer of the sea-floor. It can be used for almost every type of sediment. Operating the standard box corer is relatively straightforward. When the frame reaches the seafloor, a weight is taken off the hoist cable and the trigger mechanism releases the cylinder-shaped core box. The box will then penetrate the seafloor to a maximum of 50 centimeters as a result of its own weight. Please contact us for more information.
